Until a few years ago, Istanbul was only a meeting place for terrestrial and submarine cable systems for telecommunications and data traffic in the Middle East. Due to its special location, a center for transport, logistics, and finance, Istanbul is now also becoming a very important account point for digital data flows to and from Europe. More than 500 Turkish Internet providers, a growing population, the digitization of state and private sectors as well as the connection of Asia and Arabia via Istanbul with Europe/America gives Istanbul a gold rush mood. In the long term, German data center operators will have an extreme problem with the “green electricity” for their data centers in Europe. Turkey continues to massively expand hydro, wind, and solar energy. Sufficient customers for the heated data center exhaust air are also sufficiently available in various conurbations.
